Trip to the dentist

I've got to quit taking my kids to the dentist, it's going to cost me a fortune! When the kids went about a year ago Nash had 3 cavities. Today's news wasn't too much better.

Samantha has about 8 cavities. Four of these they will fill/fix and the other four they will "just disk them." My understanding of this is that they are small enough they will place a disk between the teeth and that should keep them from getting bigger. All the cavities are in her molars. I asked about her non-existent tooth while I was in there as well (one of her incisors doesn't have a permanent one above it - apparently this is a prominent gene on both sides of the family). I'm thinking I shouldn't have asked about it. He said that she'll lose the incisor when she's around 11 or 12. At that point she'll need braces in order to create a space for the missing tooth. After the braces come off, she'll get a retainer with a fake tooth on it. When she's done growing (around 16-18 years old) she can have an implant put in. Oh goody.

Nash was free & clear today. No cavities and no other kind of looming news.

Caleb didn't have any cavities, but the dentist told me that he has a pretty good under bite. He said that often times when they're baby teeth fall out, this can correct itself. If it doesn't correct itself, he'll need "some orthodontics" around the time his six year molars come in so he doesn't "end up looking like an English Bulldog."

Great, 2 sets of braces I can start saving for! I'm starting to think the orthodontist will like me and my children as much as the ENT does! I don't think I want to schedule Trav's check up any time soon! Sam has to go in to get her cavities fixed on August 9th. Maybe I'll consider scheduling a check up for me & Travis after that?? At least the boys didn't have cavities, right?

Catching up!

It seems like I'm always trying to catch up these days! Gee, can't imagine why! Today I went into Shopko to pick up a prescription and ended up getting some school supplies too. I can't believe it's already that time! Yikes!! Where did our summer go?

I'm trying to get us ready for two trips at the same time. We're going to Yellowstone Friday-Monday. We'll be home Monday night & then on Tuesday Trav goes back to work & the kids & I, along with my brother & Scott, head to Oregon until Aug. 2nd. We've got lots of fun stuff planned for while we're in OR and we can't hardly wait to get there. I haven't been to Yellowstone since I was like 12 or 13. Travis has wanted to take the kids for two or three years and this year I finally gave in. Hoping we don't have any kind of trauma while we're gone (knock on wood!).

Yesterday was Caleb's 2nd birthday. I can't believe he's 2 already! To celebrate we went to Hyum Dam with Trav's parents. The kids had lots of fun (as you can see in the pictures) and I only got a small sunburn on my back! ;) When will I learn to sunscreen everywhere?? When we got home Jamie & Robbie (Trav's sister & her family) came over. Nash decided to try & fly off the couch & land on Robbie's back without warning Robbie. Yeah, Robbie got up and moved & Nash missed. He put his tooth through his lip a good one this time. When is that kid going to learn that he can't fly? Not any time soon I suppose! I stayed up reading until 1:30 am (I'm reading Sixteen Brides). At 2 Caleb woke up screaming and proceeded to scream until 4:30 when I finally gave him some Motrin & he fell back to sleep. I called the dr.'s office this morning and got him in. The dr. said on a scale of 1-5 his ear is a 3, almost a 4. Glad I took him in! We got him on Zythromax. Yay ear infections! At least we got in before we left for a week and a half! That in itself would have been traumatic for everyone if I had just brushed it off!

We're planning to have Caleb's birthday party Wednesday night. This year I am making him a dinosaur cake completely out of cupcakes. I'm excited to see how it works. I bought a book that has a bunch of cakes you do like this and there's a castle in there Sam wants in February. We'll see how this one goes first!

I likely won't be able to post until I get home from Oregon, so have a great 2 weeks!!

Relay was so much fun this year. We had around 15 people up there with us off & on for the entire event. My team raised about $1200 and Relay itself took in $70,100! That's a lot of money!

Samantha stayed up at Relay with me the entire time & Jade stayed with Cass. I think those two girls had a lot of fun. Actually, I'm betting Sam will want to do it with me again last year. Never mind that she got to adopt a cabbage patch doll for $5, the endless snow cones, the bounce houses, dunk tank, LaShar's performed, the candy, the prizes we won, staying up late, etc.

I was a little worried we might blow away Friday night when the wind really kicked up. But, when it was all said & done, we were all still there! I

won about 3 different raffle prizes and I ended up with 3 things in the silent auction. Samantha was just thrilled to have her new adopted cabbage patch doll - I was thrilled it was only $5!

The heat was insane. When we got there on Friday around 1:30, I thought we would all melt. By the time we started taking stuff down on Saturday, we had a "dying spot" under one of our canopys! Sam ended up with a tiny bit of pink on one shoulder. I, on the other hand, have pink shoulders where the pink comes to a V, a sunburned forehead & top of my head, and a funny pink line down the back of my arms. Note to self: even if you don't think it will stay on due to sweat, wear sunscreen. Duh Misty.

Cindy & I have already started coming up with good ideas for fundraising for next year! Are we nuts, or what? I think the favorite thing the two of us saw were the shirts, pins & magnets that said "Cancer sucks".

Whew!

We have been busy, busy, busy! I'm starting to wonder how I've survived the last 2 weeks or so! I decided it would be easier to just put all my pictures in a slideshow so you can see what we've been doing.

Note: the picture of Travis on the trampoline was a direct result from Travis and only Travis!

I haven't gotten pictures yet, but the kids got haircuts yesterday. Caleb is officially a big boy, Nash is not as bald as he'd like to be, & Samantha's hair is at least 3 inches shorter (cute a-line that is shorter in the back & gets longer in the front). Pictures to come later!

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of about 3 new books. Like my house is lacking for books - honestly, I need to take a picture of my basement so you can see what I'm talking about!

Relay for Life kicks off tomorrow at 5 pm. Super excited because it will be lots of fun. Samantha dances at 11 am on Saturday & is excited that she finally gets to participate in something with mom. We'll see how excited she is at 1 am!
