Christmas & Other Happenings

Well, we survived Christmas (barely). I've decided that right now I am GLAD I work full time!

My kids have spent WAY too much time together as of late & do almost nothing but fight, and they are NOT quite about it so when Caleb finally falls asleep it lasts no more than 30 minutes at a time. I'm sure that spending 8+ hours in the truck together over the course of 2 days didn't help that much.

Caleb is teething & has a daily 20 minute quota for being happy. He thinks you must hold him & that you absolutely must be standing while holding him. Sleeping through the night is not an option lately. He is eating cereal & baby food quite well now. He LOVES to eat his toes though & especially thinks it's a great idea to do so while eating his cereal. He has gotten good at moving the walker around when he's in it too. Caleb rolled from his back to his belly about a week before Christmas & then didn't do it again until Christmas Day. Well, Christmas Day he took off & now thinks he's a regular pro at rolling over. He only gets mad when he gets high centered on his belly & can't flip back over to his back. He's starting to try & get up on his knees already too. That's a scary thought!!

Other than that, we've had a pretty good break. We've had a ton of snow so that has kept us inside quite a bit. I'm hoping that we're done with the snow for awhile once I go back to school on the 5th! Travis' sister & her family came back out from Florida to be with us for Christmas. It has been kinda different to see them so much in 1 month (they were here for Thanksgiving too).

We had a good time visiting everyone in Manti over Christmas & the kids loved seeing their cousins they don't get to see very often.

Samantha keeps asking why her dad doesn't get a Christmas break. It's a hard concept for her to understand that not everyone gets the same time off that she & I do!

We are looking forward to 2009 & all the adventures it is sure to bring with it (so long as some of the 2008 adventures are not to be repeated!!!). We hope the new year finds you happy & well. Can't wait to hear from you!

Whew!!

Well, I made it! It's SO nice to think that I have 2 whole weeks before I have to go back to school!! Now I just hope I can catch up on everything at home.

It has snowed SO much here in the last few days. On Friday I drove Trav's truck to work because I knew we were going to get dumped on & the truck has 4 wheel drive.

Friday after I got home from work Trav shoveled out the driveway & we went into town. We dropped the kids off at his mom & dad's house & went out to finish our Christmas shopping. I only forgot 1 present. Not bad considering we left at like 9 pm!! We got home about 2 am with Caleb & went to bed. Today I spent pretty much all day wrapping presents. Glad to have that one crossed off the list!!

The first weekend in December we went down to Manti to get our Christmas tree. It was the first year we took the kids up on the mountain with us to do so. Actually, after thinking about it I realized Trav's parents had gotten us one each year since the year Sam was born, so it's been awhile since we've been down to pick out our own tree. We had a ton of fun though. The kids were thrilled to ride the 4 wheelers - even in the cold, and they thought it was pretty cool their dad would climb a tree and cut it down just so they could have their Christmas tree. There was only a little bit of snow to trudge through too. In years past I've tromped in snow that was nearly waist high!! You should have seen me on the mountain the year I was 7 months pregnant with Samantha!!

Caleb is eating cereal & baby food now. Sometimes he isn't too sure of the whole idea (like when Trav fed him carrots - STRAIGHT.) but he's doing good with it and getting chubbier every day!

I'm hoping to start my baking tomorrow. Hopefully the kids will cooperate & I can get it all done & the house cleaned before Christmas Eve. I know, that's an ambitious thought!!

A Teacher's Night Before Christmas

'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the school
Not a pupil was silent, no matter what rule.
The children were busy with paper and paste;
The mess that they made with it couldn't be faced.

The teacher half frantic and almost in tears,
Had just settled down to work with her dears,
When out in the hall there arose such a clatter
up sprang the kids to see what was the matter!

Away to the door they all flew like a flash;
The one who was leading went down with a crash.
Then what to their wondering eyes did appear
But a green Christmas tree! (To decorate I fear!)

When the teacher saw this, she almost grew sick.
She knew in a moment it must be Old Nick!
She ran to the door (all her efforts were vain)
But she shouted, and stamped, and she called them by name;

"Now Tommy! Now Sandy, Now Judy and Harry!
Stop Billy! Stop Robert! Stop Donny and Sherry!
Now get to your places get away from the hall
Now get away! Get away! Get away all!

As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly
The pupils, pell mell, started scurrying by.
They ran to the blackboard and skipped down the aisle;
Their faces were shining and each had a smile.

First came a basket of popcorn to string
Then came the Christmas tree (menacing thing).
As the tree was brought in there arose a great shout;
The pupils were merrily romping about.

The state they were in could lead to a riot;
The teacher was sure, if allowed, they would try it.
Her nerves how they jangled! Her temples were throbbing!
The rush of her breath sounded almost like sobbing!

The lines of her face were as fixed as a mask;
It was plain that she didn't feel up to her task.
The look in her eye would have tamed a wild steer,
But the children ignored it; they did every year.

A tear from her eye and a shake of her head
Soon led me to think that she wished she were dead.
She spoke not a word but went straight to her work,
Strung all the popcorn which broke with a jerk.

But at last it was finished and placed on the tree;
Then came the bell and the children were free.
Their shrill little voices soon faded away
And peace was restored at the end of the day.

As she looked at the Christmas tree glistening and tall,
She smiled as she whispered, Merry Christmas to all!

Anderson Family

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Anderson & Thurston families. I went to school with Tami & Travis went to school with Curtis. Their daughter Kylee was in Sam's dance class last year & I had actually talked with Tami about watching the boys while I was at work. This reminds me I need to hug & kiss my children every day & say I love you more. Sardine can be a scary canyon to drive through on a good day let alone having to worry about other drivers and weather. I can't imagine being the driver at fault of this accident.

Christmas? Already?

I am SO not caught up in ANY matter of speaking!
The Thanksgiving break was good - would have been better had I not had to bring home a bunch of school stuff to work on, but good.
I had a booth at Novemberfest. That sucked. I only got 4 orders. Don't think I'll make that same mistake 3 years running (ok, I'm a slow learner!).
Trav's sister & her family were here for the break. That was nice. We haven't seen them since Sept. when Caleb was blessed. We are hoping they can come back for Christmas!

We are trying to survive here. I had parent teacher conferences tonight & tomorrow. I haven't left work before 7 pm for 3 weeks running now. Yes, I get mother of the year award! Travis got laid off 2 weeks ago. I can't believe how little work there is around here. We're hoping he can stay busy until Christmas and then if need be he can go work in Rock Springs driving truck in the oil field. Not our first choice, but better than losing our house.

The kids are all geared up for Christmas. I'm stoked for a longer break! I really need to spend some time with my kids! Speaking of which, we're going to Manti this weekend to get our Christmas tree. Should be fun. I'm guessing I'll get to stay at the farm & Trav will get to take the kids up the mountain with his mom and dad. Should be interesting anyway!

I keep looking at everyone's blogs and thinking what cute pix they have posted. I do have Christmas cards with pix on them to get sent out. It's just a matter of finding the time to address 50 envelopes! Guess I'll have to print my address list out and take it in the car over the weekend!

Hope you have a great week!

Craziness

Well, I've officially had strep 2 times in the last month & Caleb has had 2 ear infections & an ingrown toenail. Yes, an ingrown toenail! He's only 3 months old!!! Poor kid already takes after his dad! And unfortunately, I think Sam is getting strep now too. GRRR...so NOT in my plans!

I did get some new pics of the big 3 month old tonight. Will have to post another time (it's late & I should be in bed!). He is already trying to hold his bottle & can almost roll over! I can't believe how big he's getting. Oh, he's got the bald spot in the back now too. It totally makes him look like a little old man!! He's been quite a trooper. The dr. put him on Keflex 4 (yes FOUR) times a day for 10 days to clear up his ear infection & the infection in his toe. He's done a lot better with it than I expected.

Samantha changes her mind daily about what she wants to be for Halloween. Lucky for me Nash still wants to be a ghost. I'm down with that because that is simple! I'm just hoping he doesn't change his mind the day of Halloween!!

We are mostly surviving. Travis is still working in Montpielier so I'm picking kids up about 5 each night. The end of the first term is next week so we're trying to get all kinds of grades finished up. What a nightmare that's turning out to be! Next term I'm going to be a lot more strict about late work & not accepting it after Fridays!! We run like crazy people around here but so far, so good!

Hope you have a great week!

Oh! My sister tagged me. I'm supposed to post 6 random things about me that you might not already know.
1- I'm 28 years old & still afraid of the dark (don't laugh! I sleep with the closet light on when Trav's out of town!).
2- I'm afraid of deep water I can't see the bottom of (I think it has to do with getting stuck strapped to the knee board when I was 10 & was stuck upside down in the water until dad swam over & flipped me right side up!)
3- I won't let Travis clean fish when we go fishing (he just mutilates them) I do it.
4- I took the class to get my conealed weapons permit this spring & just need to mail in my paper work to get my license.
5- I like to go ice fishing (even my husband won't do this one..he thinks I'm insane).
6- I had a big time crush on one of my best guy friends from 8th grade until after I graduated from high school!!

I tag: Jamie, Tannie, Heather, Angela

The Elk

Travis killed his Elk on Sunday, Sept. 29th. It's an even 6 points on each side. He said it scores 365 & 1/2 (400 is record book big). He has it at the taxidermist now so this spring I'm going to officially have a dead animal on my wall. That's okay though, it's pretty cool. Besides, he can't draw out again for another 10 years. His uncle killed a 4 point on Wednesday night so all the boys were excited the hunt turned out so well.

We managed without Trav being home for 2 weeks but I'll tell you what...I don't know how single parents do it! My house is a disaster & I'm behind with school stuff!! I told Trav he probably couldn't have gone at a worse time. Caleb got shots the day before he left, I had 2 parties on the day he left, I had my monthly jewelry meeting, Sam had dance twice, & I had parent teacher conferences. I was getting over strep & then last night I threw up in the middle of one of my parent teacher conferences!!!! Not one of my finer moments in life for sure!

Anyway, we're doing good! We're almost all healthy here. OH! We have grass!!! I need to take pix now that my camera is back. Again, who knew someone could get so excited about grass!!

Elk Hunting Season

Well, widow season is here. I was going to post pix on Sunday & then realized Trav took my camera hunting with him. Guess it will have to wait until he comes home!
Trav left on Sat. (the 20th) & is planning to be gone until Oct. 3rd. Unless of course he kills something before then! I talked to him on the phone tonight & he was really excited because he found a big heard of elk with some big elk in it. I may have a dead animal on my wall after all!

School is going well. We are doing our IOWA tests this week & will be having another math test & our first science test next Monday. DIBELS is coming up...we're still trying to get enough parents to help do the testing so I hope we can round them up before our deadline arrives! Craziness!!

Caleb is growing fast. We took him in to have his 2 month well check last Friday. He's up to 11 lbs 2 oz. I think that's what Nash weighed at 2 weeks! He is growing like a weed though & loves his food - even if he does throw up a lot from his reflux.

Samantha is still loving school. She's been going to the Boys & Girls club after school until 5 and has done all kinds of fabulous things. They made a music video last week after creating their own instruments (we now have a maraca & a guitar). Today they made tin foil boats & had a compettition to see who could put the most pennies in their boat before their boat sunk. Sam got about 47 in hers. Not too shabby! She was pretty excited bout the boat & wanted to make one for Nash so I told her I'd let her do it tomorrow.

Nash is still loving preschool. They are now on letter C at school & for letter C they are talking about cowboys/cowgirls & cactus. I thought that the cactus part was kinda random but hey, he was excited.

Well, as soon as I get my camera back (& the CD my sister burned with pix from Caleb's blessing) I'll get pix posted - I promise!!

We're still alive....kinda

So, now that we're 3 weeks into the school year I've got my first sickness. Dr. said I have strep. Isn't that just fabulous? I took the kids to get new pix done on Sat. & then came home & slept most of the rest of the day. I didn't even get out of bed Sunday & then I drove an hr to work this morning just to stay for 30 min (long enough to find a sub). Tomorrow I'm only working until lunch. I wouldn't even go except it's picture day & I kinda have to be in the class picture!

Caleb has his 2 month dr. appointment this Friday. I can't believe he's already 2 months old! It's insane how much he looks like Nash. Since I have 2 jewelry shows I'm doing on Sat. I'll have to post pictures on Sunday.

Travis & his dad & our brother in law worked all day Saturday & Sunday in our backyard. We got our grass planted in the whole backyard & up both sides of the house. Yay!! Now if we can just manage to find time to water it so it will actually grow, we'll be doing good!

Travis leaves to go Elk hunting on Sat. the 20th & won't come home until Oct. 2nd. That's going to be a fabulous challenge of my mothering abilities! Guess we'll see if we can survive or not! Should be interesting, not to mention a learning experience! I don't think my house could look any more like hurricane Ike has hit!! I'm just glad we have Samantha in Boys & Girls club to go to after school is over so I don't have to be home right at 4 (I'm not even supposed to leave work until 4)!

Anyway, we are surviving & I'm sorry I don't post as often! I promise I'll update things Sunday!

Insane??

Ok - those of you that told me I was insane to teach full time & have my family at the same time, well, you weren't completely wrong!!
I have 27 students & it seems that many of them are working below grade level. That's frustrating. Especially since we're assessing all the kids right now to figure out where they are & what they need! Oh the craziness! I've had to turn into the Wicked Witch of the West at school as they apprently have forgotten how to follow directions & listen! That makes me crazy! Today they lost their entire afternoon recess & have a start on tomorrow morning's recess as well. I suppose after missing recess several times they might catch on that I'm serious!!

We will be blessing Caleb Sunday Sept. 7th. Sacrament starts at 1:00 & our church is just a few blocks south of our house. We'd love to have you & we're having lunch at our place after the blessing. So, let me know if you can make it! Sorry I didn't get paper invites out to everyone but as I'm sure you can guess I do well to sleep 5 hours a night!

Speaking of which, I'd better get busy!

Reunions, Lost Teeth & School

My brother came home to visit 2 weekends ago. He moved to Magna in July & came home to see his new nephew. My kids LOVE their Uncle Zack & were super excited to have him home for a day or two.

This last weekend we went down to Manti for the Bown family reunion. Caleb is a good little camper & even went on his first 4 wheeler ride. We've taken all our kids on the 4 wheeler since they were just tiny & they all love it (I love it b/c it knocks them out pretty quick!!)

Samantha & Nash caught fish with their dad & were quite proud of themselves.

It wouldn't have been a trip with the Bown's if we hadn't had at least a little bit of rain (downpour on Sat. night). We made flip flop photo albums (I'll take a pic of mine as soon as it's finished & post it). These are way fun & super easy. I think I might do some for Christmas presents.

We got home Sunday night about 9:30 pm (that's way early for us!) & I told Samantha I thought if she wiggled her tooth a little it would just pop right out. Of course she had trauma over this & told me no way. The next night as we were getting ready to leave, she says to me, "Mom! My tooth just fell out!" I knew that sucker was ready to come out! The toothfairy stopped by last night & left her a $1. She was pretty excited this morning & really likes showing off the new hole in her mouth!

I went down to West Haven today to meet with the other 3rd grade teachers. We finally have our occupancy permit so we can finally start putting our rooms together. I have one set of cupboards as you can see from the picture & just one 2 shelf bookshelf. I will need to be recruiting more bookshelves for my classroom b/c my class library is enormous & only getting bigger! We still don't have books in our school library, the part of the student desks that holds all their "stuff", our student textbooks, computers....pretty much a lot! All our work room has in it is a laminator that isn't hooked up & a big paper cutter!! I'm really hoping we have everything in place by the 25th, otherwise it could be an interesting start to the school year!

1st bathtub experience

I put Caleb into the bathtub today for his first actual bath. I had him in the water all of 30 seconds when he pooped in the water! Nash sure got a kick out of it! Once I got the water changed he really liked his bath. It's much warmer than on the counter right next to the air vent with the air conditioning blowing out. I guess after 3 years you forget how quickly babies can change your plans!! I know I need to get quicker at changing his diaper or I'm going to get peed on one of these days!

2 Week Well Check

Caleb is 2 weeks old today! We took him to the dr. for his well check & he is now 8 lbs 6 oz. That means he gained 13 oz in 12 days (he had dropped to 7 lbs 9 oz the Monday after he was born). My pediatrician said that you normally want babies to gain 1/2 to 1 oz per day. Since he's gained 13 oz in 12 days, that means he's gained a little more than an oz a day. I knew he was a little piggie! That boy loves his lunch!! I took Samantha with me to the pediatrician & left Nash with my mom. I knew they were going to do his 2nd pku test & didn't want Nash to freak out when they stuck him. Samantha was really good help at the dr.'s office though. And, much to my amazement, Nash has been an awesome helper at home. He loves to give Caleb his bottle & at the first little whimper Nash is grabbing a binki or a bottle & running to the rescue. It's so much fun to watch. I think those 2 boys will be inseparable when Caleb gets a little bigger!

New Pix

Dad's version of babysitting:

I thought that by baby number 3 he'd have a different version of babysitting. Boy was that the wrong assumption!

8 days old:

Yes, he's screaming here!

10 days old:

Caleb's reflux is doing a little better. He's had a bad bellyache for the last two days though. I thought last night was going to be a rough night but he did really well. Of course, this morning he picked up right where he left off last night!

I was able to put him in the snugli today & he actually fell asleep in it. We tried it out a few days ago & he just screamed the whole time he was in it! I hope he likes it as much as the other two did b/c he'll be spending a lot of time in it during the first two weeks I'm at school! I need both hands to write!!

Samantha & Nash still love him to pieces. On Sunday I went to get Nash between classes to go to the bathroom. Brother Ashton (one of the nursery teachers) offered to hold Caleb while I took Nash. Brother Ashton said something about trading. Nash about fell to pieces! He thought I was giving his brother away!! It was pretty cute! At least I know he won't let anyone pick on his little brother!!

The only thing I wish I could get figured out is how to get Caleb to sleep in his bassinet during the night! He'll sleep in it or the crib or his bouncy chair during the day. At night though, he thinks he needs to be in my arms or on my chest! That's what I did for a long time with Samantha, but with school starting soon, I'm going to need my sleep!

Caleb pulls lots of faces in his sleep & it's actually quite entertaining to watch. Samantha really gets a kick out of watching him. He laughs in his sleep too. Right now he laughs like his dad so we'll see if that stays the same or if it goes away as he gets older. We still can't tell what color his eyes are going to be. They are so much darker than either of the other two kids. I think they're going to be green & Trav has said he thinks they'll be brown. Guess we'll have to wait & see but they are definately not blue (at least not right now!).

One last thing, I promise! Last night we were at my mom & dad's house. I was in the bathroom pumping (I can't get him to latch back on since I gave him a bottle to help ease his reflux but I'm still trying). I had just changed Caleb & gave him to my mom to feed. Well I guess while he was eating, he pooped his pants, a lot. So, my mom laid him down to change him (this was only her second time changing him). Samantha of course had to be in on all the action (she can't miss anything!). Suddenly, Samantha comes marching into the bathroom. She stops & puts her hands on her hips & looks at me with a completely disgusted look on her face & says, "Mom! My baby brother just peed all over me!" I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing. I finally managed to tell her, "Well, that's what they do!" I guess he got my mom, himself, Samantha & his blanket all pretty soaked. I don't think Samantha will be too in his face at changing time anymore!

Baby Update

We went into the pediatrician today. Caleb is down to 7 lbs 9 oz. The dr. isn't worried though b/c he knows how much the little boy loves to eat! On the down side, he does have reflux. He was up until 5 am screaming this morning. Dr. gave me some medicine & both of the other two kids had reflux so it's nothing new for us. We're hoping he has a better night tonight!

Caleb Travis Bown

Sunday, July 20, 2008

He's Here!

Well, he finally arrived! The hospital called me at 5:15 pm on Thurs. the 17th to go ahead & come up. We arrived just before 6 & by 6:15 pm they had my pit drip started. My sister made her way up by 6:30 & we were off to a good start. I told my nurse that I wanted to try & wait until I reached a 5 before I got my epidural because it wore off with Samantha & I didn't want that experience again! Travis & I still didn't agree on a name for this baby so my sister went & found a baby book with 50,001 baby names! Travis finally conceeded & we decided we'd name him Caleb Travis Bown. Dr. Fowers broke my water at 8:40 pm & thanks to a dose of Fentonal at 10:15 I was able to make it to a 5 before I asked for my epidural at 10:50 pm! It took the dr. about 20 min. to give me my epidural & I have to say that this one was the most painful of the three. I could feel him doing everything! Thirty minutes after my epidural I was at an 8 so I was really glad I hadn't waited to get my epidural any longer or else I probably wouldn't have been able to get it!! I started to push about 1:15 am & he was born at 1:42 am on Friday July 18th. We weighed in at 8 lbs 1 oz & was 20 inches long. I thought for sure this baby was going to be the biggest of the three so I was very shocked to learn he was actually the smallest! When Travis was heading into the nursery with him the nurse told us that they had 17 babies in the nursery! Trav said the basinetts were lined up wall to wall. I guess there's something to be said for full moons!!

We came home on Saturday afternoon & he is doing well. He only lost 1 oz in the hospital so that tells you how much he likes to eat!

Nash & Samantha are thrilled their brother is here & Samantha has finally decided that it's ok he isn't a girl, she'll love him after all!

My sister & her daughter, Jade, came to visit today & helped give him his first bath. He loves to have his hair & his bum washed but did not like the rest of his bath!

GRRRRR

Well, I called the hospital back at 1. They said they'd call me when they had a spot. Well, I called back at 2:30. The head nurse told me then that they had someone in recovery that would be going upstairs soon & that she'd get me in then so to call her at about 3:45. Called back at 3:30 & the nurses & changed shifts. The nurse that answered the phone told me they'd call me when they had a spot for me. I tried to patiently explain I was first on the list at 6 this morning & that they keep telling me to call back in an hour & "we'll get you in then." So, that nurse went & got the head nurse. The new head nurse was SO rude. She basically told me, "You're not a priority b/c you aren't a medical necessity induction, you're an elective induction & I'll take you when I want to." So, as you can imagine, that made me really mad. I called my dr.'s office after that & talked to my dr.'s nurse. I told her that my dr. had told me last week that he wouldn't be available tonight b/c he had to go pick his daughter up so when I called the office earlier to find out who was on call I found out that the dr. on call all weekend is the dr. I've seen that I did not like & did not want her to deliver me. So, I asked her if my dr. isn't going to be available if I can have this other dr. in the office deliver me instead of the one I don't like. She talked to my dr. & called me back. She said that my dr. will be available all night but has a surgery in the morning & won't be available after that. So, I asked again, if I don't get into the hospital & deliver tonight if I can have this other dr. deliver me. That's when she told me, "Well, we'd have to ask him & he isn't in today, but he is in tomorrow so we could ask him then. But, you're going to get in tonight & have him tonight." That's when I bluntly told her, "Well, I'm not getting my hopes up anymore and I'm pretty pissed off at the hospital right now."
So, here it is 5 pm & I still haven't even been to the hospital today but I'm sure my blood pressure is really high after all the phone calls I've had! The nurse I talked to last said I could keep calling the hospital to check to see if they could take me but otherwise to wait for them to call me. I told her "yea right. You guys keep telling me you'll call me back today & you haven't called me one time!" So, I will keep calling the hospital back until they take me! I am not happy about the prospect of laboring all night long but I suppose if they can't take me until 10 pm that's when I'll go b/c if I wait until tomorrow I'll have to go through all this crap again!
Hopefully my next post will be of baby pictures! Hope you had a more productive day than I have!!

Waiting...

Well, I'm supposed to be started today. I called the hospital at 6 am this morning & was told they had 1 person in front of me that needed to be delivered before I could come in. I called back at 9:15 & was told they thought they could get me in within an hour but if I hadn't heard back from them by 11 to give them a call back. I called back at 11 & was told they'd gotten unexpectedly busy so to call them back at 1 if I hadn't heard from them by then! I'm really hoping we get to have this baby today!! My feet can't take the enormous amount of swelling anymore!! They feel like they're about to pop! I'll keep this post updated as I can! Keep your fingers crossed & think water breaking thoughts for me (then they'll have to take me!)!!

Waiting for Baby...

My Water BabiesI have decided my children should have been born as ducks or fish. They absolutely love the water & will spend every waking second in it that I allow them to. Nash has made amazing strides in the last week. Last summer he had a near drowning incident in my parent's pool. Since then he's been much more cautious around water. Until this week that is. Suddenly his fear of water is gone & he is cannon balling into the pool until I'm tired just from watching him! Yes, cannon balling - he climbs on the ladder, does his little routine, shouts "Cannon Ball", & jumps in!

Baseball Travis loves baseball & has played it since he was a little kid. Saturday night while we were out at Trav's parent's house Nash discovered the little glove. Grandpa Scott & Dad played catch with Nash, teaching him how to throw the ball & catch it in the glove. Now I'll have to find the glove he got for his birthday & get it out so he can play catch at home with dad. I'm sure there are many baseball games to come in my future!!

First Fish of the Season Travis went fishing with my dad Sunday night (the kids & I stayed at Grandma's & they went swimming) & came home with his first catch of the season. (A little late, I know, but it's a start.) It's a large mouth bass that measured 17 inches! Samantha was all excited to get in & see what it was all about - Nash on the other hand wasn't too sure he wanted to get very close to the fish at all!

Sam's growing up!

Tonight we went out to my parent's house to celebrate my mom's birthday. We had a hot dog roast & not long after Samantha sat down to eat she came over & started complaining that her tooth hurt. I, of course, being the fabulous mother that I am told her, "Your tooth is fine! Go eat!!" Well not too much later I was in the kitchen & Samantha was complaining again about her tooth hurting. So, I told her to come here & let me look. Well, wouldn't you know it! She has her first loose tooth!! She was a little freaked out at first b/c I made a big deal of it & said, "Hey! Lets go tell your dad!" I felt bad b/c she started crying after I said that! But, now that we've talked to her about it, she's a bit more excited (and anxious) about it. So, it's official. I feel old! My first baby is going to start kindergarten & has her first loose tooth & my second baby is starting preschool! Guess you might say I'm glad I get to start all over again!

Dr. Says....

Went to the dr. today. He says I'm dilated to a 1 1/2 is all. The happy news is that I am the first person on the induction list for Thur. July 17th. So, if this baby doesn't come out himself before then, well then he'll be forced out on the
17th!!

Happy 4th!

We had quite the eventful week this past week but still no baby!

On Wednesday night we went up & watched the Hyrum fireworks from the baseball diamond. The kids thought that was quite a bit of fun but weren't too impressed with the amount of traffic we had to sit and wait in. Nor were they too big on how far they had to walk from the baseball diamond to the car!

On Thursday we went with Trav's parents to the Logan fireworks. We go with the every year. We eat dinner at their house & then head up to the stadium around 8 pm or so. Scott was kind enough to drop Kris, the kids & I off in the parking lot. We sat & waited for Travis & Scott to walk back from parking the truck. It took them so long we started to wonder if they were actually coming back! When they finally made it to us I made the trek up the hill into the stadium (if you've been there, you know that's a steep hill for a fat girl!). We found pretty good seats & actually didn't have to wait too long for the fireworks to start. The kids had a lot of fun watching them & despite their dad telling them there are no blue fireworks b/c no chemical burns blue, they kept asking him why there weren't any blue fireworks! After the fireworks were over & we headed back to the truck, Scott told us he parked "just past that light." Yea, well turns out that "just past that light" was nearly to 1800 north! He had to park just past the vet clinic on 800 East! He said he figured it was about a mile & a quarter. I volunteered to jump all the way there to see if I could prompt the baby to come out. No such luck! I also mentioned that I think next year we should just walk all the way to the stadium & back from their place (they live just west of Greenville Elementary) b/c it really wouldn't have been much farther than what we walked this year!!

Friday was the Hyrum parade. Every year Travis & I joke that we're going to go along Main street & pick up all the chairs left out b/c we need new camp chairs so badly! Hyrum residents were putting chairs out Sunday afternoon for this "Grand" event! The parade isn't even until NOON on FRIDAY! I can't believe the attention this parade gets! It's bordering on ridiculous!
This pick is of our kids, my niece, the neighbor kids & Travis waiting oh so patiently for parade candy. Yes, Travis. He's quite the candy catcher & is really good at helping the kids get their fair share!

Jade, Samantha & Nash on Friday after the parade

My sister & her husband, Chad, on their motorcycle in the parade. The cop next to the wanted to race if you can imagine!

On Friday night we had Trav's parents over for dinner & fireworks. We ended up getting quite the fireworks show too! Two of our neighbors (somewhere in the block) has illegal fireworks they kept setting off. They would shoot up above our house so we had a great seat from our driveway. The kids really got into picking out which fireworks they wanted their dad to light & then sitting it down for him to light it & running away.

On Saturday my parents did their big Fourth of July Pig Roast. It was a lot of fun. We had a pretty decent turnout, maybe 50 people. The kids were in the pool until after dark & the food was awesome!
My uncle Doug adjusting the pig. The pig was 54 lbs this year so it was only 2 lbs bigger than Samantha!

A better picture of the pig

Not long after I took this pic Grandpa Larry jumped out & about 15 more kids jumped in!

And last, but not least. Here is my picture at 37 weeks. Several times at the pig roast I heard people say, "She just looks hot & miserable." That's when I turned to them & said, "That's because she is!" I go back to the dr. tomorrow & I'm hoping he'll just start me b/c I'll be 38 weeks this week & his lungs should be mature enough for him to be ok! I'll post an update tomorrow unless we're having a baby!!
