The last few days...in pictures!

I went to Hobby Lobby today (after I stopped at Temptation Cupcake for the first time) to buy some more hair stuff. The kids were good so I let them each pick a pack of stickers. Samantha chose a sisters one. Here's what she made for her little sister.I have finally finished Brookelyn's carseat canopy. It turned out super cute & it even matches my carseat cover!
It's kinda hard to read, but the pink (not orange) letters say Brookelyn.
I just need to bind this blanket for my sister & baby no name.
I need to bind this one for Brookelyn.
And as of tomorrow I will be 25 weeks. It has felt like she's dropped the last week (my tail bone is KILLING me!). I've also had some wicked Braxton Hicks contractions. I think it's too early for that!

Nash's Tough Days

The last two days have been kinda rough on poor Nash.

On Monday we took all 3 kids to the dentist. I was hoping no one would have cavities. I got that wish. I should've been more specific in my wish list. Nash had a spot on one of his molars where the enamel had basically died I guess. They wanted to fix it asap. Of course there were no appointments available for Tuesday when they had no school and their dad was home. So, we schedule an appointment for today.

Travis & I decided this "thing" on the joint of his index finger was a wart. It's been there at least a month & doesn't look like something that wants to be popped. So, last night I had the pleasure of holding him down while Travis applied Compound W's "Freeze Away." Yeah....not fun. It started out ok, but after Trav touched it a few times with the applicator, the burn started to set in. That's when I had to hold him down so Travis could keep it on there for a solid 20 seconds. I'm crossing my fingers that it really does only take 1 application and that it falls off in the 10-14 days like it says.

This morning I was up at 3 am feeling like I was going to die. After an hour of nearly curling up in a ball on the bathroom floor and doing so, I finally made it back to my bed. When I got the kids up this morning I was feeling a bit better, but they told me they both felt like they were going to throw up. I offered them the choice of Tums or Pepto. They both choose Pepto. Let me tell you, we have to force Pepto down them after they throw up when they have the flu. I was shocked they both choose that & took it willingly. Trav left for work at midnight last night so I texted him to ask if he was sick this morning too. He later told me he hadn't felt good this morning but chalked it up to only getting 2 hours of sleep. The only thing I can figure, is we had a touch of food poisoning. Caleb is the only one that didn't eat dinner last night (little bugger's getting particular about what & when he eats). Luckily by noon it had worn off for the kids & I've only been hit & miss for the rest of the day.

At 11;30 we headed to the dentist's office. I left Caleb with Grandma Kris because I had no idea what today's visit was going to entail. They asked if I wanted him to have the gas. I told them yes because I had no idea what this project was going to be like. He was a little resistant at first, but we finally got him to "put on the piggy nose". Everything was going swell...and then the dentist came in. Now, Nash has had work done before, but my mom took him because I was working so I hadn't seen his reaction first hand. I take my kids to a pediatric dentist, because I know what a drama queen Samantha is & I know these guys are geared for that. So, when they started to tell Nash they were going to wash his tooth I was thinking "no problem." Duh..
Well, that's about the time he started to FREAK OUT. The dental hygienist, Jenni, was trying to hold his hands down & assist the dentist. So, I came over & got a hold of Nash's hands. Meanwhile, Nash got a hand lose & knocked the dentists hand...to which the reply was, "if he bumps me I'm afraid my tool with go right through the roof of his mouth." AWESOME. And no, he hadn't had any Novocaine. So, I sat for the next 30 minutes, next to Nash trying to keep his feet from hitting me in the head & his hands tied down. No, he never had any Novocaine. They told me it shouldn't be hurting him, probably just his nerves. Since I've only ever had my wisdom teeth pulled, how the heck am I suppose to know?! Once they got all the enamel off that had gone bad, there was a big hole in his molar. So, they filled it with....something white. Trav said when they use the machine to harden the filling, that does hurt a little. So, I guess it probably really did hurt. Oops. After he was done, he sat cowering in the corner for 20 minutes crying. We told him he could leave as soon as he quit crying - we didn't want him to scare any other kids. He kept telling me his mouth hurt so I told him we'd go over to WalMart & get some Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Jenni, they hygienist, told me they had some. So, she filled up a syringe (JUST LIKE the one I use at home). You would have thought we wanted to shoot him with Novocaine then! He wanted nothing to do with it - even when I told him he could do it all by himself! He told me, "No! I don't want anything else in my mouth!" Well, I guess I couldn't really blame him.

After we finally left the office, I realized he had pink spots all over his face and neck. The culprits? I recognized these little fellows from the days of having Sam's tubes unclogged. He had screamed & fought so hard for so long that he's broken a TON of blood vessels in his face, neck, chest & back. Awesome. Now he has little red freckles for any where from a few days to a week. Hope his teacher at school doesn't think I beat him today!

We did venture over to WalMart. I decided I'd better try to find something small to go with a couple birthday presents for next week. And how could I tell the poor kid no when he asked me for a small new lego set? I couldn't. I caved. Yup - weak moment. But hey, I think I've tortured this kid enough this week, don't you?

Another day, another project

My mom made these cute crayon holders for all the grandkids for Christmas this year & gave them a huge coloring book to go with it. My kids have loved theirs - especially my artist, Nash.

My sister was looking at the pillowcase dresses & decided she wanted me to do one for her niece for her birthday. Then she decided she wanted a crayon holder too (she thought I made them). So, without a pattern, here is my attempt!
I'm surprised at how easy it was. I think I might need to make a few for my etsy site to see if they'll sell. I just used a scrap of fabric I had from one of the reversible bags I made.

I finished some more!

This one is for my niece Jade. I'm going to do a matching one for her baby sister too. This one is for my cousin Sadie. I think it will be awesome with her beautiful jet black hair.
This one is for my cousin Sara. I think it will go beautiful with her amazing blonde hair. I'm doing one like this in a baby size for my sister in law too.
This one is one that my sister ordered for her niece for her birthday. This is the smallest size I've made so far. It's a four. It wasn't too bad, so I'm hoping the baby sizes aren't either.
Now, if when I do the baby sizes there's enough fabric left over for some matching bloomers, I'll be happy. Anyone have or know where I can get a bloomer pattern for cheap? Preferably one that doesn't have all the ruffles on the bum. I know they're way cuter, but the idea of all the work the ruffles will take makes me cringe!

Pillowcase dresses

For those that didn't see it on Facebook, here is a picture of the 1st pillowcase dress I made. I plan to make a matching one for Brookelyn (it's almost done too). I've got about 2 dozen or so that I'm working on. Several will be gifts & the rest are going on my etsy site. Here's to hoping for a quick finish!

Book Review

Last night I stayed up and finished reading The Lost Hero. Not sure what that is? It's the follow up series to Percy Jackson. I LOVED Percy Jackson - despite being hesitant to start it, I found I couldn't put it down! I will tell you, this book is HUGE. It was kinda intimidating to think about starting a book that big right now. But, I bit the bullet and bought the book (the library STILL doesn't have it on their shelves, even though they've ordered it and received it).
At first, I couldn't figure out how this book and the Percy Jackson books were connected. Sure, they talk about Camp Half Blood and you get to see some of the characters from Percy Jackson. But, there was a disconnect for me. The more I read the book, the more I felt a disconnect. I knew that Percy was missing and Annabeth was looking for him, but it seemed to me that the previous series' characters made only brief appearances and I was kinda bummed out about that. I wasn't disappointed with the book, that's for sure. I just couldn't quite get over this feeling of disconnect between the two series.
HOWEVER, it wasn't until about the last chapter, that the author finally came out and defined the distinction between the two! I felt like a serious idiot when I realized that he'd been saying it all along, I just hadn't caught on.
So, without giving anything away, I will tell you that if you pick this up and start reading and you feel a disconnect, don't quit reading it! If you're faster than me to get it, awesome (just don't tell me so I don't feel like an even bigger idiot! ;) )
And now, I must wait until Spring to get the next Josie Kilpack book, Fall to get the next book in this series, and I'm not sure about when the next one in the Kane series will come out. I guess I'll have to keep digging through my pile that I've collected but haven't read!
Happy reading!

Hair cuts - and a few random pictures...

Here's me in all my glory at 22 weeks. I actually don't look as big as I thought I did! Maybe that's just because I don't want to see me as big as I feel! I went to the dr. today and ended up taking all three kids with me. They love hearing Brookelyn's heartbeat. I've gained 39 lbs! YIKES! Let's hope that it slows down a bit!! Otherwise, I think I'll surpass the 62 lbs I gained with Caleb!! I go back in 4 weeks for everyone's favorite...THE GLUCOSE TEST..I had the pleasure of getting my blood drawn today too though because they are checking my thyroid. I was wondering if my mono was back. Now we play the sit and wait game.I LOVE that these two are such good buddies. I think they have a relationship like my brother and I do. That's AWESOME!
The boys needed haircuts so I got some scheduled for today. I thought Sam just wanted a trim. I should quit thinking I know what that girl wants! I am in serious trouble when she hits 13!
I didn't realize just how long her hair really was! This cut looks really cute on her. It's a lot like the cut I had last January. She seems to really like it and I guess as long as I can braid the front for dance competitions, we're ok!
Nash's hair hasn't been this long since before he cut his own hair a couple months ago! He gets serious bed head! I haven't managed to get a good "after" shot of him today. He woke up quite croupy and hasn't felt too hot. But, he's "bald" again!
My little Caleb is growing up WAY too fast! This boy talks NONSTOP these days. He's just so stinkin cute! His hair was SOO long. This past weekend he fell asleep and when I went into Les Schwab to get my tires rotated he just slept on my chest. When he woke up, his hair literally stood straight out to one side. It looked just like the wing to a plane! I loved it long, but since my father in law started commenting on it, I decided we'd better get it cut. It's quite short again, but seeing as how all my children have hair that grows like weeds, I'm sure it won't last too long!
Thanks Nat!

I'm awesome

I love coupons. Shutterfly is offering 30% off photo books until Thursday, Jan. 12. Plus, they are offering free shipping on orders over $40. I now have ALL my Oregon/Mt. St. Helen's & (yes, AND) Yellowstone pictures scrapbooked & ordered! I'm pretty sure it was cheaper than if I printed the pictures and did it the "old fashioned way"! Especially when you consider there's a total of around 400+ pictures to print!
At least I can say I've made a dent in my New Year's Resolutions!
Poor Samantha. Here's what her ear looks like about 2 days after her surgery. It actually looks worse (and hurts more) now than when I took these. The only reason she let me take them is because she wanted to see what the back of her ear looked like! This is the front of her ear. I told her it looks like she has a purple earring in. Now it looks like a much bigger purple earring in her ear!
We got to watch a lot of this while Travis was home this past week. We have had a treat because after he went back to work after Christmas he only had to be gone 1 week instead of 2 (he had been given extra days off at Christmas time). While he was at work he found out they had way too many guys on the schedule so he was home for a week, will be gone for 1 week and then be home for a week again. After that he will go back to his 2 weeks on at a time. The bummer part of that is that he'll be gone for the kids' birthdays again. This was the first time in 3 years he was going to be home on their actual birthdays. Oh well, I guess we'll take him being home more often for a little while instead!
Remember how I mentioned that Caleb sleeps with like a zillion animals at bed time and that I needed to get a picture of it? Last night Samantha tucked him in & I went in later to check on him. This is what I found! He's hard to spot! Usually I put all his animals at the foot of his bed. His sister was kind enough to pile them up around him! There aren't even any books in there! It's a really, really good thing this kid will be in the double sized bed when they move downstairs!
Nash got some Star Wars legos from Christmas from Grandma Terri. It was a big box that you could build one of the ships from Star Wars. He also got a smaller box with a bunch of guys and a smaller ship. He built the small ship and the guys with no problem the night he got them. The big ship though, well, that took mom. So, once I finally got it assembled, we had to have a photo!
New Year's Eve was fun. I just realized I didn't post about it. I thought we were going to be spending it (just the kids and I) at home because Caleb hadn't felt too hot. We ended up going over to my mom's house instead. Caleb was as enthusiastic as ever and was awake until we got home at 1 am! I found the Happy New Year tiara's at the grocery store for 89 cents & Caleb really wanted them. So...
I was also the smart one that bought the noise makers at the dollar store. The hats and noise makers combined made for some great entertainment by the kids. I love the look on Nash's face in this picture!
Oh my brother is special, isn't he? Let's hope his weird doesn't rub off on my daughter any more than it already has!
And I was worried about the weirdness of my brother? Check out my dad's AWESOME outfit he wore to go outside & light off fireworks!
Here is my ever talented mother showing my children how to pull the ugliest faces on the planet! Actually, this isn't the worse face she can pull. She's already taught them that one!

Sam's Tonsils

Today we had the pleasure of going to the Specialty Hospital to have Sam's tonsils out and the hole in her left ear drum repaired.

We had to be there at 8 am. They didn't take her back to anesthesia until just before 9:30 am. She wasn't happy about going back there, but she did good.

After she was safely in the recovery room, our ENT, Dr. Blotter, came out to talk to us. He said he's done easier tonsillectomies on adults! He said that her tonsils her so big that she likely had obstructive sleep apnea as well. Good thing those suckers came out!

To fix the hole in her left ear drum they made an incision about an inch long on the back of her ear where her head and ear meet up. They took out a small pad of fat from the back of her ear and used that to patch the hole. Hopefully it will work!

She's been completely zonked out all day. Not sure if it's because of the pain medicine they gave her or if it's from the anesthesia. Oh well, I'm sure she's better off this way for today!

I told Travis, "It's only the sixth day of the year and we've already met half our deductible." Awesome.

Random thoughts

Well, we've started off the new year in a non-miraculous medical way.

Caleb got sick the Tuesday after Christmas. It started as croup. Of course my humidifier and my nebulizer both went on the blitz and wouldn't work. So, last Friday I took him into the pediatrician. The pediatrician told me "It could be croup, but there's a pretty darn good wheeze in his chest." So, rather than give me dexamethazone for him, I got a spacer and albuterol "puffer" for him. Yeah, he wasn't excited about that and wouldn't let me get too close to him with it. I think I was able to do it to him twice and he was suppose to be getting it every 4 hours. Saturday I broke down and borrowed my sister's nebulizer. He hasn't been too excited about that either. My mom showed him how to "share" with his cow and now he ONLY wants to give the medicine to his cow. He isn't thrilled about the idea of taking turns with cow. Sunday night I thought the poor kid was going to cough up a lung. Did I mention he'd had a fever off and on since last Tuesday? So I gave the poor kid some cough medicine at about 1:30 am. Trav's cousin told me about what her kids call "magic socks." I figured I wouldn't be out anything, so, I tried it. All you do is rub vapor rub on the soles of the feet and then put socks on. Within 20 minutes that kid totally quit coughing. And, he didn't cough for the rest of the night! Magic socks INDEED! We are keeping that remedy around. Apparently you can put it in your armpits too and it does the same thing. But, since he has some eczema there that's trying to clear up, I thought I'd better not put it there. Monday he still wasn't feeling so hot, so I took off work and called the pediatrician's office back. Luckily for me, they called in a prescription for him. I did manage to get him to share his nebulizer with his elk toy yesterday - ONCE. I think the elk got more than Caleb did though. Last night he was still a very sad little boy. His fever did break yesterday though. So, I decided I'd better take one more day off work and give the antibiotics 24 hours to kick in. This morning he's still pretty dang whiny and his nose is awful and he just wants momma. Guess we'll see how the rest of the day goes.

At 3:30 am on Sunday I was woken up to vomit by Nash. That's always a fantastic way to start the day. Especially considering my pregnant nose makes everything smell ten times more than what it does to normal noses. I ended up keeping him home on Monday, just to be sure he wasn't going to puke at school. Today he goes back.

When Sam woke me up at about 8 this morning she informed me SHE felt like she was going to throw up. Awesome. How did I know she really didn't feel good? She wouldn't even eat her toast with raspberry jam. So, I sent her back to bed and she didn't even move again until after 11:30 this morning. No fever and I'm hoping it stays that way. She's suppose to have her tonsils out and the hole in her left ear drum repaired on Thursday.

All last week I felt like there was a 400 lb weight on my shoulders that just made me exhausted. At first I chalked it up to being pregnant. But, after several days and 12+ hours in bed a day and still needing a nap, I'm wondering if my mono is back. Guess I'll have that checked when I go back to my dr. on the 12th.

I must admit, I've NEVER been so glad to have Travis coming home before!
